Aphasia Collage by Nancy Garrity, IAM Participant
This is a mixed media collage, 6 inches high and 7 1/2 inches wide. It does not have a frame. Here is what the artist says about the work: “The past few years I have used making collages as a way to express my feelings. I had a stroke this summer so in the fall I looked through my stash of “stuff” and found the “hopeful, healthy, happy card”. From there I cut the words apart and worked to put them back together – just as I felt the stroke had broken me apart. I built step by step until I was satisfied that it was complete and expressed my feelings. It wasn’t until I was asked what the buttons stood for that I thought about why they were there. Adding them was the last step. “Hopeful Healthy” seemed alone and needed containing so I put the buttons around it. As I see it now, the buttons stand for all of the people who have helped to put me back together.” Thank you, Nancy, for sharing your creativity!
